Should IPL be given precedence over Country ?Andrew Symonds who provoked the ire of a billion people is the second highest paid cricketer is now part of the Chennai IPL team and shares the same dressing room with MS Dhoni who 1 month back tried to get justice for Harbhajan Singh..

Fast Forward>>Andrew Symonds Bowls outside leg and Sachin in the process of paddle sweep misses the line of the ball and the ball hits the stumps..

Venue-Wankhede-Will the Mumbaikars get furious and in the next match take a dig at MS Dhoni since Dhoni plays for the same team.

Venue-Madras-Will the Chennaites erupt with joy after the dismissal of Sachin or will they keep quiet..

These are the questions which will be answered in a couple of day’s time .The pride of playing for the country might see a new trend in the coming years with the advent of IPL.

The reason-Cash rich cricketers .

“I felt like a cow” Says Adam Glichrist during the bidding process and such is the fanaticism that the bidding process was shown live on SET MAX which also aquired the rights for airing IPL For $1 billion dollars.I was frantically searching for SET MAX to see how a bidding process looks like..So I have no complains as long as cricket matches and cricket news make up my holidays and invades my weekdays too.

Adam Gilchrist might have felt like a Cow but did he back off from the IPL ..No..

That is the magneticism of Money .Whoever you are ,Money is certainly a big factor that influences your decisions if not totally.


Getting back to IPL,SRK needs to be talked about as he is the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders team .SRK some months back sent the cash registers ringing by his iconic performance as a hockey coach in Chak De India! Has turned Mir Ranjan Negi into a overnight celebrity …such was the effect of SRK in the movie .He however changed loyalties and bought the Kolkata Team and he knew that cricket was the only sport where the money lies .

With The IPL being promoted by Bollywood superstars ,the general impression that I get is that IPL is no longer going to watched as a Cricket Tournament But as a alternative to the Saas Bahu sagas which later could have a telling effect on the way we see cricket..The IPL being a 20-20 format drastically reduces the skills that a batsmen might have or a bowler might have due to the length of the game and there is very little margin of error for a fightback once a team gets on the backfoot slightly whereas in Test Match Cricket it is quite the opposite where a Team has to consistently play well over 4 to 5 days to win the match .


The greatest paradox that is present with IPL can be explained in the case of Yuvraj.He was the Star of the 20-20WC 2007 by hitting massive sixes and who can forget his Six Sixes in Six balls in different areas of the ground.
Fast Forward>>2 months In Australia-He struggles in the Tests and is still struggling to get a firm holding in the Test Squad .His footwork goes horribly wrong and a string of poor scores ensures he is kept out of the Test X1 in the near term atleast.

What do I make out of this—Is he is suffering a shortfall in his batting skills ?

I don’t know since hitting Six Sixes in different parts of the ground against a fast bowler shows the enormous batting talent of Yuvraj ..However when he travels to Australia he simply cannot read the ball well enough and gets dropped eventually..

Its difficult to determine whether IPL is a true reflector of talent or is just TUKKA cricket which means Cricket by default ..As I Don’t see Rahul Dravid or Jaques Kallis or Shivnaraine Chanderpaul doing much in the team’s cause as technique is a certainly not an ASSET here .



It will be interesting to see whether Rahul Dravid or Sourav Ganguly makes a comeback to the ODI squad by their performances in the IPL or whether a relatively unknown Manoj Tiwary or a Suresh Raina takes the bowlers to the cleaners and sort of book a place in the regular X1 in the ODI squad.

I am pretty sure that IPL will be the biggest hit in Television and expect some shockers to come in the next month or so..I will be having my Sem Exams which will certainly endanger my chances of doing well in MY EXAMS but hopefully I will be able to do well
